Quasi-particle model of strongly interacting matter

The successful quasi-particle model is compared with recent lattice data of the coefficients in the Taylor series expansion of the excess pressure at finite temperature and baryon density. A chain of approximations, starting from QCD to arrive at the model expressions for the entropy density, is presented.

Quasi-Particle Description of Strongly Interacting Matter: Towards a Foundation

We confront our quasi-particle model for the equation of state of strongly interacting matter with recent first-principle QCD calculations. In particular, we test its applicability at finite baryon densities by comparing with Taylor expansion coefficients of the pressure for two quark flavours. We outline a chain of approximations starting from the Φ-functional approach to QCD which motivates t...

States of Strongly Interacting Matter

I discuss the phase structure of strongly interacting matter at high temperatures and densities, as predicted by statistical QCD, and consider in particular the nature of the transition of hot hadronic matter to a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons. To speak about quark matter in a meeting dedicated to Heisenberg is somewhat problematic. In one of his last talks, Heisenberg noted: " There e...

Quasi - Particle Model for Deconfined Matter

Our quasi-particle model for deconfined matter near Tc is reviewed. The extrap-olation of lattice QCD data to a finite baryo-chemical potential is discussed. Determined by the chiral transition temperature Tc, the resulting equation of state of neutral and β-stable deconfined matter is soft and limits size and mass of pure quark stars.

Strangeness in strongly interacting matter

This talk is devoted to review the field of strangeness production in (ultra-)relativistic heavy ion collisions within our present theoretical understanding. Historically there have been (at least) three major ideas for the interest in the production of strange hadronic particles: (1) mass modification of the kaons in a (baryon-)dense environment; (2) (early) K-production probes the nuclear equ...
